What to Do After Landing at Ercan Airport: An Area-by-Area North Cyprus Arrival Guide (2026)
If you are landing at Ercan on a connecting flight via Turkey, this guide brings together every step, from leaving the terminal and meeting your driver to the delay and waiting rules and area-by-area drive times to Kyrenia, Nicosia, Famagusta, Iskele, Bafra and Karpaz.

Quick answer: After landing at Ercan Airport (ECN), you pass through passport control, collect your luggage, clear customs and walk out of the arrivals hall, in that order, all within the airport's single passenger terminal. Your Vixride driver waits for you at the exit with a Vixride sign showing your name, helps with your suitcases and takes you to the vehicle; the driver's phone number, the vehicle's licence plate and the exact meeting point are sent to you by WhatsApp before landing. The driver tracks your flight and waits 60 minutes free of charge from the actual landing time; however long the delay, you don't need to let us know. From Ercan, you reach Nicosia (Lefkosa) in about 25 minutes, Kyrenia (Girne) and Iskele in about 45 minutes, and the Karpaz Peninsula in about 110 minutes.

What should you prepare before your flight?

Flights to Ercan depart only from Turkey. If you are coming from the UK or elsewhere in Europe, you change planes at a Turkish airport such as Istanbul on the way. Because of this connection, your landing time at Ercan may shift, so plan your arrival day accordingly.

Add your flight number when booking; the driver uses it to track your actual landing time. On a connecting journey, you usually have two flight numbers; as a practical tip, enter the number of the connecting flight that lands at Ercan.

Before setting off, make sure you have the following on your phone:

  • Booking confirmation (voucher): Your booking is confirmed by a voucher sent by email or WhatsApp. Also save your booking reference somewhere easy to find; you will be asked to quote it when you get in touch about a change or cancellation.
  • Your hotel's full address: Note down the name and full address of your hotel or rented villa.
  • Support number: Save +90 553 537 33 61 in your contacts.

You book on the Vixride website: in the search form, you enter the pickup and drop-off points, the date, the time and the number of passengers, choose a vehicle class and confirm by entering your contact details.

How does the terminal process work after you land at Ercan?

Ercan Airport is North Cyprus's international airport, located about 20 km east of Nicosia. The airport has a single passenger terminal.

After you leave the plane, the order is as follows:

  • Passport control: This is your first stop.
  • Baggage and customs: You collect your suitcases from the carousel and pass through customs.
  • Arrivals exit: When you walk out of the arrivals hall, your driver is waiting for you right at this exit.

On Vixride's Ercan page, the meeting point is listed as "Ercan Airport Passenger Terminal", and the page gives a Google Maps link to this spot.

How do you meet your driver, and what should you do if you can't find them?

On Vixride's website, the meet and greet is described in four steps:

  1. Live flight tracking: The driver tracks your flight on live flight radar; whether the plane lands early or late, they are ready for the actual landing time.
  2. Baggage and exit: You collect your luggage and go through customs to the arrivals exit. Up to 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time is allowed for this.
  3. Meet and greet with a name sign: Your driver waits at the exit with a Vixride sign showing your name, helps with your suitcases and takes you to the vehicle.
  4. Direct journey: The vehicle goes door to door, with no stops on the way, to your hotel lobby or rented villa.

Your driver's phone number, the vehicle's licence plate and the exact meeting point are sent to you by WhatsApp before landing. The vehicle is 100% private: it is reserved for your group alone, no other passengers are picked up and there are no stops at other hotels on the way.

If the WhatsApp message hasn't arrived, you can't see your driver at the exit or you can't reach them by phone, message or call +90 553 537 33 61 on WhatsApp. The support line is available 24/7 in Turkish, English, German, French and Russian; the operations desk, staffed around the clock, will connect you with your driver.

What happens if your flight is delayed or you land at night?

Situation What happens? What you need to do
Your flight lands early The driver follows the actual landing time Nothing
Your flight is delayed by several hours The driver adjusts to the new time, at no extra charge No need to let us know
Baggage and the exit take longer 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time Head for the exit
You are not out within 60 minutes Treated as a "No Show"; the driver may leave and no charge is made Message the support line
Your flight is cancelled or moved to another day or flight number The booking needs to be updated Let Vixride know via WhatsApp

The 60 minutes start not from the time on your ticket but from the moment the plane actually lands. For example, if your ticket says 18:00 but the plane lands at 19:15, your free waiting time lasts until 20:15.

Transfers run 24/7; there is no night rate for flights landing around midnight or in the early hours, and the fixed price in your booking applies.

How long does it take to drive from Ercan to areas of North Cyprus?

Vixride runs transfers from Ercan to 11 destinations; the times are for normal traffic.

Destination Area Distance Approx. drive time
Nicosia (Lefkosa) Inland 20 km 25 minutes
Famagusta (Gazimagusa) East coast 50 km 40 minutes
Catalkoy North coast 42 km 40 minutes
Kyrenia (Girne) North coast 45 km 45 minutes
Esentepe North coast 45 km 45 minutes
Iskele (Long Beach) East coast 55 km 45 minutes
Alsancak North coast 55 km 50 minutes
Lapta North coast 60 km 55 minutes
Guzelyurt West 60 km 55 minutes
Bafra East coast 75 km 60 minutes
Karpaz Peninsula Karpaz 120 km 110 minutes

At weekday peak hours, traffic increases around Nicosia; the details are in the Nicosia section. On other roads, traffic mostly flows freely.

The sections below list hotels that have their own transfer page on the site, but transfers are not limited to these hotels. Vixride runs transfers between the airport and any hotel, villa or address.

Kyrenia and the north coast: Catalkoy, Esentepe, Alsancak and Lapta

The distances and times for these five destinations are in the table above. The hotels with their own transfer page on the site, and the roads stated on those pages, are as follows:

Area Hotel listed on the site Road to the hotel
Kyrenia Lord's Palace Hotel Spa Casino Nicosia–Kyrenia main road, Kyrenia mountain pass
Kyrenia The Colony Hotel Arkin Nicosia–Kyrenia main road, Kyrenia mountain pass
Catalkoy Acapulco Resort Convention Spa Kyrenia–Esentepe coastal road
Esentepe Korineum Golf & Beach Resort Kyrenia–Esentepe coastal road
Alsancak Merit Royal Premium Hotel Casino & Spa Kyrenia–Guzelyurt coastal road
Lapta Babil Bahçeleri Kyrenia–Guzelyurt coastal road

These roads are given only for the hotels named; for distance and time, go by the area table. When you open a hotel's page, you can see that hotel's fixed price.

If you are coming for golf, the Korineum Golf & Beach Resort page in Esentepe states that golf bags are included in the transfer price. The vehicles that take golf bags are shown in the vehicle table below.

Arriving in Nicosia: the shortest drive and peak hours

Nicosia is the nearest destination in the table and lies inland rather than on the coast. Vixride's website lists two hotels in Nicosia with their own transfer page: Merit Lefkoşa Hotel and Grand Pasha Nicosia Hotel & Casino. The drive to these two hotels runs via the Ercan–Nicosia road.

Around Nicosia, traffic peaks on weekdays between 07:30 and 09:00 and between 16:30 and 18:00, and at these times the journey may take a little longer. However, traffic never changes the price.

Famagusta, Iskele (Long Beach) and Bafra: the east coast

The hotels listed on the site, and the roads stated on the hotel pages, are as follows:

  • Famagusta: Arkin Palm Beach Hotel and Grand Sapphire City Hotel. The drive to these hotels runs via the Nicosia–Famagusta main road.
  • Iskele: Salamis Bay Conti Hotel and Grand Sapphire Resort & Casino. The drive to these hotels runs via the Famagusta–Iskele road and the Long Beach coastal road.
  • Bafra: Limak Cyprus Deluxe Hotel and Kaya Artemis Resort & Casino. The drive to these hotels runs via the Iskele–Karpaz road.

Guzelyurt and the Karpaz Peninsula: the west and the farthest point

Guzelyurt is in the west of the island. The hotel listed on the site for Guzelyurt is Aphrodite Beachfront Resort, and the drive to it runs via the Nicosia–Guzelyurt main road.

The Karpaz Peninsula is the longest transfer from Ercan. Hotels around Dipkarpaz and Karpaz Gate Marina are reached with no stops on the way. The hotel with its own transfer page on the site for Karpaz is Livana Hotel, and the drive to it runs via the Iskele–Karpaz road.

The Livana Hotel page also names Blue Sea Hotel, Karpaz Gate Marina Hotel, Burhans Hotel and Dipkarpaz Wooden Houses. If your hotel isn't among them, that's not a problem: Vixride also runs transfers to any hotel, villa or address on the peninsula.

KIBHAS bus, taxi or private transfer?

Aspect KIBHAS bus Taxi Vixride private transfer
Where do you board? The stop opposite the arrivals exit The taxi rank outside the exit Meet and greet with a name sign at the exit
Where does it go? The bus stations in Nicosia and Kyrenia Door to door, the driver chooses the route Door to door, to your hotel lobby or villa
How is it priced? Per person: Nicosia 300 TL, Kyrenia 400 TL (April 2026) Varies by company, agreed in advance Fixed price per vehicle, shown when you book
Meet and greet and queues You board at the stop yourself No name sign, long queues at the rank at peak times Name sign, help with your suitcases
If your flight lands late You depend on the timetable at kibhas.org — The driver follows the actual landing time
Luggage Suitable for travelling light Compact sedan, limited luggage space A vehicle to suit your number of passengers and suitcases

Bus tickets are bought on the bus or at kibhas.org, where you will also find the current timetable and routes. According to Vixride's comparison, the bus works when three conditions are met together: you are staying in central Nicosia or Kyrenia, within easy reach of the bus station; you are travelling light; and your flight lands at a time covered by the timetable at kibhas.org. Hotels in Alsancak, Lapta, Esentepe, Bafra, Iskele or on the Karpaz Peninsula require separate transport after the bus station.

As taxi fares vary from company to company, agree the price before you set off. According to Vixride's comparison, taxis offer no meet and greet with a name sign and no child seat, the vehicle is a compact sedan with limited luggage space, long queues form at the rank at peak times, and the route depends on the driver.

A private transfer, on the other hand, suits hotels outside the town centres, families and groups (the price is per vehicle, and child seats are free on airport transfers), and travellers whose connection through Turkey may run late.

Example: a group of four to Lapta, bus or transfer?

Four friends land at Ercan at 15:20 on a weekday, on a flight with a connection in Istanbul. Each of them has one large suitcase, and their hotel is in Lapta.

Option 1, KIBHAS bus:

  1. The bus does not go to Lapta; it runs as far as the bus station in Kyrenia.
  2. The fare is 400 TL per person: 4 × 400 TL = 1,600 TL.
  3. They need to check at kibhas.org whether there is a service that fits their flight.
  4. A second journey from the Kyrenia bus station to Lapta has to be arranged, and it is not included in the 1,600 TL. If they continue by taxi, the fare needs to be agreed before setting off.

Option 2, Vixride private transfer:

  1. Four passengers and four large suitcases don't fit in the Economy Sedan (up to 3 passengers and 2 large suitcases). The group chooses the FirstClass Van (Mercedes Vito), which takes up to 6 passengers and 6 large suitcases.
  2. As the plane lands at 15:20, the free waiting time lasts until 16:20. The group reaches the exit at 16:00 and meets the driver.
  3. According to the table, Lapta is about 55 minutes away in normal traffic. If the vehicle sets off at around 16:05, the group reaches the hotel at around 17:00 in normal traffic.
  4. Payment is made in the vehicle at the end of the journey, in cash or by card.

The bottom line: the 1,600 TL bus fare does not cover the second journey from Kyrenia to Lapta, whereas the private transfer has a single, fixed, per-vehicle price shown when you book.

Choosing a vehicle for families and groups

When you enter your number of passengers and suitcases in your booking, a suitable vehicle is sent; luggage limits are given in large suitcases. Choose the vehicle class by the number of suitcases as well as the number of people: for example, if two people arrive with four large suitcases, the Economy Sedan's limit of 2 large suitcases is not enough and a FirstClass Van is needed.

Vehicle Model Max. passengers Max. large suitcases Also fits
Economy Sedan Mercedes E-Class 3 2 —
FirstClass Van Mercedes Vito 6 6 Golf bags, pushchairs, foldable wheelchairs
Vip Sprinter Mercedes Sprinter 16 16 Golf bags, pushchairs, foldable wheelchairs
  • Child seats: Baby and child seats are free on airport transfers. You can request them when booking or via WhatsApp; the seats are certified and sanitised and are fitted in the vehicle before you arrive.
  • On board: All vehicles are air-conditioned, regularly sanitised and have room set aside for luggage. They have leather seats, free Wi-Fi and USB charging ports, and complimentary water is provided on every transfer.

An example for larger groups: a group of 9 arrives with 9 large suitcases. As the FirstClass Van takes up to 6 people, the group can only travel together in one vehicle with the Vip Sprinter, and the 9 people share a single fixed per-vehicle price.

All of Vixride's drivers and vehicles in North Cyprus hold the permits and documents required for passenger transport; they are fully authorised and insured.

Payment, booking, cancellation and currency

  • Fixed price: The price is per vehicle and is shown when you book. There is no meter; nothing is added later for luggage, waiting, night travel or flight delays.
  • No prepayment: Nothing is charged in advance or online. You pay the driver in the vehicle at the end of the journey, on the day of the transfer.
  • Payment methods: You can pay in cash in euros, dollars, pounds sterling or Turkish lira, or by credit or debit card.
  • Satisfaction: If you are not satisfied with the service, you can choose not to pay the fare.
  • When to book: You can book up to 2 hours before pickup. In peak season, we recommend booking 24–48 hours in advance.
  • Free cancellation and changes: As nothing is paid in advance, cancelling and amending are free of charge. We ask you to let us know via WhatsApp, quoting your booking reference, at least 24 hours in advance so that the vehicle can be reassigned to another journey.
  • Return journey: Vixride works in both directions; you can book your return transfer from your hotel, villa or any address to Ercan Airport in the same way.

In North Cyprus, the local currency is the Turkish lira and traffic drives on the left. You don't need Turkish lira for the transfer, but bus fares are set in Turkish lira.

Vixride is a travel agency holding TÜRSAB licence no. 14798 and has provided private transfer services at 10 airports in Turkey and North Cyprus (IST, SAW, AYT, GZP, ADB, BJV, DLM, ASR, NAV and ECN) since 2021.

Example: a night arrival via Istanbul and a hotel in Iskele

Two adults and two children aged 4 and 8 are flying from the UK to Ercan with a connection in Istanbul. The landing time on their ticket is 23:40, and their hotel is in Iskele, at Long Beach.

  1. Booking: As the family is travelling as four people with four large suitcases, the FirstClass Van (Mercedes Vito) is chosen. The flight number is added when booking, and two child seats are requested.
  2. Delay on the connection: The connecting flight in Istanbul departs late. The family doesn't message anyone; as the flight number is in the booking, the driver follows the actual landing time on live flight radar.
  3. Before landing: The driver's phone number, the vehicle's licence plate and the meeting point arrive by WhatsApp.
  4. Landing: The plane lands at 00:25 instead of 23:40, that is, 45 minutes late. The 60 minutes of free waiting start from this actual landing time, so the family has until 01:25 to come out without rushing.
  5. Terminal: After passport control, baggage claim and customs, the family reaches the arrivals exit at 01:05. The driver is waiting with a sign showing the family's name and carries the suitcases to the vehicle; the child seats are ready in the vehicle.
  6. The journey: According to the table, Iskele (Long Beach) is about 45 minutes away in normal traffic. The vehicle sets off at 01:10, and the family reaches the hotel at around 01:55. There are no other passengers in the vehicle, and it goes to the hotel lobby with no stops on the way.
  7. Payment: At the end of the journey, the family pays the fixed price they saw when booking, by card in the vehicle.

Had the same family considered the bus, they would first have had to check at kibhas.org whether any service fitted their night-time landing, and then find separate transport from the bus station to Iskele.
