Transfer Marketplace or Direct Transfer Company: Which Should You Book in Turkey? (2026)
Disclosure: This guide is published by Vixride, a direct transfer company, so we are one of the options it describes. What we say about other companies comes from their own terms, help pages and official blog, checked on 11 and 12 October 2026 and listed in the sources at the end. Policies change, so check the current terms before you book.
Short answer: A transfer marketplace sells you a transfer that another company or driver carries out: you usually pay online in advance, and you often learn which company will carry out the transfer only after booking. A direct transfer company is the operator itself: one contact from booking to drop-off, drivers who know its airports and routes, and often payment on the day. For an airport transfer in Turkey or North Cyprus, booking a licensed company directly is the simpler choice. Vixride is one: TÜRSAB licence no. 14798, its own transfers from 10 airports, a fixed price per vehicle and nothing to pay before your driver meets you.
When you search for an airport transfer in Turkey, most results fall into one of four types. They look similar on screen, but they work very differently when something goes wrong.
The four ways to book a transfer
- Bidding marketplaces. You post your trip, and several carriers send offers with different prices and vehicles. GetTransfer is a well-known example. Its service agreement says the platform is not a transportation carrier: the carrier whose offer you accept performs the trip.
- Fixed-price platforms. The platform sets a price for the route, takes payment online and passes the trip to a local driver or transport company. Welcome Pickups' terms say it acts "solely as an intermediary" between you and the driver, and Suntransfers' terms say a local "Transport Operator" performs the transfer.
- Activity and tour platforms. Sites such as GetYourGuide and Viator list airport transfers from local operators next to tours and tickets.
- Direct transfer companies. The company that owns or operates the vehicles sells the transfer on its own website, by phone or by WhatsApp. Vixride works this way.
In every case, the person who meets you at arrivals is a local driver. The difference is how many parties stand between you and that driver, and who you deal with when plans change.
Side-by-side comparison
| Marketplace or platform | Direct company (Vixride) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who drives | A partner company or an independent driver, often named only after booking | The company you booked with |
| Price | Set by the platform or by bidding carriers, with the platform's commission or margin built in | Fixed per vehicle and shown on every route page; tolls, parking, flight-delay waiting and child seats included |
| Payment | Usually online, before the trip | Nothing in advance: pay the driver at the end of the ride, in cash (EUR, USD, GBP or TRY) or by card |
| Cancelling | Set by the platform or the listing; prepaid money may be partly or fully kept (see the next table) | Free at any time (we ask for 24 hours' notice); nothing to refund because nothing was prepaid |
| Changing a booking | Through the platform, which passes it on to the operator | One message to the people who run the transfer; changes are free (we ask for 24 hours' notice) |
| Help on the day | Platform support first, then the local operator | Vixride's own 24/7 phone and WhatsApp line |
| Local knowledge | Depends on the driver assigned | The company knows its own airports, terminals and routes |
| Licence checks | The platform's own vetting; you rarely see the operator's documents | TÜRSAB licence no. 14798, which you can look up yourself; D2 authorisation in Turkey |
What the platforms' own terms say
Payment and cancellation are where the models differ most. This is what each company's own pages say:
| Company | Who performs the transfer | When you pay | If you cancel |
|---|---|---|---|
| GetTransfer (bidding marketplace) | The carrier whose offer you accept; the platform says it is not a carrier | At least 30% prepaid through the platform; cash to the carrier only if the carrier's offer allows it | Default "Saver" access: no free cancellation period. "Flexible" access: free up to the agreed start time; GetTransfer's blog says Flexible has a non-refundable fee |
| Welcome Pickups (fixed-price platform) | A local driver; Welcome Pickups acts "solely as an intermediary" | Prepaid online | 24 hours or more before pickup: 80% back, or the full amount as credit for 12 months; later: no refund |
| Suntransfers (fixed-price booking company) | A local "Transport Operator" | In full at booking | Full refund up to 48 hours before pickup; no refund after that |
| GetYourGuide and Viator (activity platforms) | The local operator named on the listing | Online, before the trip; some listings let you reserve now and pay later | Set per listing; many allow a full refund up to 24 hours before |
| Vixride (direct company) | Vixride itself | Nothing in advance; pay the driver at the end of the ride | Free at any time; we ask for 24 hours' notice |
What booking direct gives you in Turkey
- You know who will meet you. The company you book with is the company that drives you, and you can talk to it before you travel.
- Changes take one message. A late flight, a different terminal or an extra suitcase is sorted out with the people who run the transfer, instead of passing through a platform and then a partner.
- Local knowledge. Families with children, large groups and hard-to-find addresses, such as a cave hotel in Cappadocia or a villa outside Kalkan, are easier for a company that drives those routes itself.
- No money at risk in advance. When a company takes payment on the day, as Vixride does, nothing leaves your account before the service.
- One fixed price, shown up front. Vixride publishes one fixed price per vehicle on every route page, so there are no bids to compare and no offers that differ in vehicle or extras.
What can go wrong, and with whom you sort it out
| Situation | Marketplace | Direct company (Vixride) |
|---|---|---|
| Flight delayed by three hours | Depends on the platform's policy and on your flight details reaching the local driver | Vixride tracks the flight: the driver follows your actual landing time, and 60 minutes of free waiting start when you land |
| Driver not at arrivals | Contact the platform, which contacts the operator | Call or message Vixride's 24/7 line directly |
| Price questioned on the day | Platform complaint, then the refund process | The fixed price is in your confirmation, and you pay the driver only at the end of the ride |
| You cancel the trip | The platform's or the listing's refund rules apply | Free at any time; nothing to refund |
The difference shows when something changes. With a marketplace, every change and every problem passes through one more party. With a direct company, the people you message are the people who run your transfer.
How to check any transfer before you pay
Whichever way you book, the same questions protect you:
- Who operates the transfer, and is that company licensed? In Turkey, look for a TÜRSAB licence and a D2 authorisation.
- Is the price per vehicle, and what's included?
- Is your flight tracked, and how long is the free waiting time after landing?
- Which number do you call on the day?
Our guide to choosing a reliable transfer company in Turkey explains how to check each of these in about ten minutes.
Why book directly with Vixride
Vixride is a direct transfer company, not a marketplace. We hold TÜRSAB licence no. 14798 and run our own transfers from 10 airports in Turkey and North Cyprus; in Turkey, they operate under a D2 authorisation. You book with us, our driver meets you, and the price is fixed per vehicle and paid to the driver on the day, in cash or by card. If something changes, you message one number: +90 553 537 33 61, 24/7.
Every route page shows the fixed price before you book. For an Economy Sedan for up to 3 passengers (October 2026): €40 from Antalya Airport to Belek, €55 from Istanbul Airport to Taksim and €45 from Dalaman Airport to Fethiye. Tolls, parking, flight-delay waiting and child seats are included, and there is no night surcharge.
Frequently asked questions
Should I book an airport transfer in Turkey through a marketplace or directly?
Directly with a licensed transfer company, if one serves your airport. You deal with one party from booking to drop-off, you know who will meet you, and a change takes one message. Vixride is a direct, TÜRSAB-licensed company at 10 airports in Turkey and North Cyprus, and you pay nothing in advance.
Is booking through a marketplace cheaper?
Not necessarily. A marketplace's commission or margin is built into its prices, and offers can differ in vehicle size, waiting time and extras, so the lowest headline price isn't always the cheapest trip. Vixride's prices are fixed per vehicle and already include tolls, parking, flight-delay waiting and child seats: for example, €45 from Antalya Airport to Side for an Economy Sedan for up to 3 passengers, or €50 for a FirstClass Van for up to 6 (October 2026).
Will a marketplace tell me which company is picking me up?
It depends on the platform. GetYourGuide and Viator name the local operator on the listing; on other platforms, you often learn the company or the driver only after booking. With a direct company, you know from the start: when you book with Vixride, Vixride picks you up, and your driver's name and phone number reach you by WhatsApp before pickup.
How late can I cancel a transfer?
It depends on who you book with. Under their own terms, Suntransfers refunds in full only up to 48 hours before pickup, Welcome Pickups keeps 20% even when you cancel 24 hours or more ahead (unless you take the full amount as credit), and GetTransfer's default "Saver" access has no free cancellation period; on GetYourGuide and Viator, the deadline is set per listing. With Vixride, cancelling is free at any time, even at short notice: we only ask for 24 hours' notice so we can give the vehicle to another transfer. As nothing is prepaid, there is nothing to claim back.
Is paying the driver on the day safe?
Yes, with a licensed company that confirms the price in writing before you travel. Nothing is paid before the service, and there is no prepayment to claim back if your plans change. With Vixride, you pay the driver in cash (EUR, USD, GBP or TRY) or by card.
