Chauffeur Hire in Istanbul by the Hour: Prices, Packages and Day Plans
A car with driver in Istanbul costs from €40 per hour, 20 km included per hour, and the driver waits at every stop on both continents. Which package fits which day, what it costs per vehicle and per person, and how to plan around traffic and prayer times.

Short answer: chauffeur hire in Istanbul costs €40 per hour in a Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 passengers), €50 in a Mercedes Vito (up to 6) and €75 in a Mercedes Sprinter (up to 16). Packages run from 2 to 10 hours with 20 km included per hour; the shortest is 2 hours / 40 km for €80. The price is per vehicle, bridge and tunnel tolls are included, and the driver waits at every stop.

  • Hourly rate: Economy Sedan €40 · FirstClass Van €50 · Vip Sprinter €75
  • Packages: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 hours
  • Kilometres: 20 km per hour of the package (4 hours = 80 km, 10 hours = 200 km)
  • Pickup: any hotel, residence or address in Istanbul, on the European or Asian side
  • Included: fuel, bridge and tunnel tolls, parking, bottled water and waiting at every stop
  • Payment: nothing in advance; pay the driver in cash or by card, free cancellation (please let us know at least 24 hours in advance)

Istanbul is a city of 15 million people spread over two continents, cut by the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. The main sights of Sultanahmet sit within a kilometre of each other, but Dolmabahçe, Ortaköy, Çamlıca or Kadıköy are a bridge, a tunnel or a long shoreline drive away.

When is an hourly chauffeur better than a taxi or a rental car?

Taxi: fine for one ride from your hotel to Taksim. For a day with four or five stops you hail a new car every time, and at rush hour or in the rain empty taxis are hard to find.

Rental car: few visitors enjoy it. The historic peninsula has tram lines, one-way lanes and almost no street parking, Beyoğlu is steep and narrow, and the bridges and the Eurasia Tunnel use electronic tolls. With a driver you are dropped at the gate and collected when you are done.

One-way transfer: for a simple A to B, hourly hire is the wrong product. A fixed Istanbul Airport transfer to Fatih, Eminönü or Beşiktaş costs €55 by sedan, per vehicle.

How much does chauffeur hire in Istanbul cost?

The formula: hours × the vehicle's hourly rate, with 20 km included per hour. Prices as of October 2026, per vehicle, fuel, tolls and parking included.

Per person in a full vehicle: six people sharing the FirstClass Van for 8 hours pay €400, about €67 each. Sixteen people in the Vip Sprinter pay €600 for 8 hours, €37.50 each. A couple taking the sedan for a 4-hour half day pays €80 each. Child seats cost €5 each on hourly hire.

Which package do you need?

In Istanbul the clock matters more than the kilometres. A loop around the Old City, the Bosphorus shore and back is rarely more than 60 to 80 km, but traffic can turn a 10 km crossing into 45 minutes. Choose by the hours you want to be out, and add an hour if your day crosses a bridge at rush hour. Only trips out of the city, to the Black Sea or a layover from the airport, use up the kilometres.

Hourly hire or a private tour?

Your driver drives and waits but does not guide inside museums; in Türkiye only licensed guides may do that. If you want explanations, our Istanbul Old City tour with a licensed guide starts at €440 per vehicle for 8 hours, and the Bosphorus and two continents tour at €320.

Five example day plans with realistic hours

1. Old City: Sultanahmet and the bazaars, 6 hours / 120 km

Pickup at 08:30 in Taksim or Nişantaşı. In Sultanahmet start with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia before the queues (about 1.5 hours together), then the columns of the Basilica Cistern (45 minutes). After lunch, an hour in the Grand Bazaar, and the driver collects you at its Beyazıt side for Süleymaniye Mosque and its view over the Golden Horn. Add Topkapı Palace (2 to 3 hours) and book 8 hours. Cost: €240 by sedan, €300 by van.

2. European Bosphorus shore, 5 hours / 100 km

Start at Dolmabahçe Palace in Beşiktaş (about 90 minutes), then the Mecidiye Mosque on the water at Ortaköy under the bridge. Coffee in Bebek, a stop below the walls of Rumeli Fortress, and a fish lunch in Tarabya or Sarıyer. The coast road is slow on weekends, so leave by 09:30. Cost: €200 by sedan.

3. Asian side: Üsküdar to Kadıköy, 6 hours / 120 km

Cross to Üsküdar for the view of Maiden's Tower and the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, then up to Çamlıca Hill for the panorama of both continents. Visit Beylerbeyi Palace (an hour), walk the wooden houses of Kuzguncuk and end with the market streets of Kadıköy and sunset in Moda. Cost: €240 by sedan, €300 by van.

4. Layover from Istanbul Airport, 6 hours / 120 km

Istanbul Airport is about 46 km from Sultanahmet, roughly 50 minutes without traffic. With a long daytime layover the driver meets you after passport control, you spend about three hours at Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome, and you are back at departures with time to check in. Only try this with at least nine hours between flights, and check whether you need a visa to enter Türkiye.

5. Black Sea coast: Polonezköy, Şile and Ağva, 10 hours / 200 km

Leave the city for Polonezköy, a village in the forest founded by Polish exiles in the 19th century, then Şile with its lighthouse, castle islet and long beaches, and finish in Ağva between two rivers. From hotels on the Asian side, Şile and Polonezköy alone fit 8 hours / 160 km. Cost of the full day: €400 by sedan, €500 by van.

Check the vehicles and book any of these plans on the Istanbul chauffeur hire page: enter your hotel as pickup and choose the package.

Practical tips: traffic, bridges, mosques and seasons

  • Traffic: the worst hours are roughly 07:30 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, and Friday evenings are the hardest. The driver chooses between the Eurasia Tunnel and the bridges depending on live traffic.
  • Parking: in Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu and Nişantaşı there is almost none; the driver drops you as close as the tram lines and pedestrian streets allow, then waits nearby.
  • Mosques: cover shoulders and knees, women bring a headscarf, shoes come off at the door. Visits pause during prayer times, especially at Friday midday prayer.
  • Grand Bazaar: closed on Sundays and public holidays, so plan shopping for another day.
  • Ferries: take the public ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy to Kadıköy for the best Bosphorus view; your driver crosses by road and meets you on the other side.
  • Seasons: April, May, September and October are the most pleasant. In April the tulips bloom in Emirgan Park; July and August are hot, humid and crowded.
  • Opening hours and tickets: they change, so check the Ministry of Culture site (muze.gov.tr) or the palace and museum websites before you go.

How to book and how the day works

  1. Pick the package and the vehicle by group size: up to 3, 6 or 16 passengers.
  2. Enter your hotel as pickup, the date and the start time, plus any child seats.
  3. Nothing is paid online. Changes and cancellation are free; please let us know at least 24 hours in advance.
  4. The driver arrives in the Mercedes at the agreed time, with water on board.
  5. You decide the stops on the day; the driver waits at each one and adapts the route within your hours and kilometres.
  6. At the end you pay the fixed price to the driver in cash or by card.
