Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a chauffeur cost per hour in Kaymakli?
Hourly rates: Economy Sedan €40, FirstClass Van €50, Vip Sprinter €75. Packages run from 2 to 10 hours; for example 4 hours / 80 km with an Economy Sedan costs €160. The price is per vehicle, not per person.
How many kilometres are included in a package?
Each hour includes 20 km: 2 hours / 40 km, 4 hours / 80 km, 10 hours / 200 km. You choose the package when booking; extras such as baby or child seats (€5 each on hourly hire) are added in the same step.
Where does the chauffeur pick me up?
At your hotel, villa or any address in Kaymakli. Enter it as the pickup location when booking; the driver waits for you at every stop during the package.
Can I also book an airport transfer to Kaymakli?
Yes. Nevsehir Cappadocia Airport (NAV) to Kaymakli is about 49 km, ~45 minutes; see the NAV to Kaymakli transfer page for the fixed price.
Is the Kaymaklı underground city a good choice for a shorter outing?
Yes. Of the large underground cities, Kaymaklı is the closest to Nevşehir and the fairy-chimney villages, so you can visit without giving up your whole day. It does not go as deep as Derinkuyu but spreads over a wide area, with stables, wine presses, kitchens and storerooms linked by narrow passages. On the way back you can stop at Uçhisar Castle or the Pigeon Valley viewpoint.
Is Kaymaklı village itself worth a look?
Yes. In Kaymaklı the underground city lies directly beneath the village, and some households still use openings from their courtyards into the old tunnels as storerooms. Stalls around the entrance sell rugs, handicrafts and dried fruit. While the driver waits in the car park, a short walk through the village lanes shows you how closely life above and below ground are woven together.
Is there a quieter underground city near Kaymaklı?
Yes. In the village of Mazı, east of Kaymaklı, there is a smaller underground city that sees far fewer visitors. Its entrances open into the village's rocky hillside, and you can see up close the stone wheels used to block the passages. With a car and driver it is easy to combine Kaymaklı and Mazı in one trip; just check beforehand that Mazı is open to visitors.
Is Kaymaklı a good idea on a rainy or very hot day?
Yes, the underground city makes a good alternative on such days: it stays cool all year round and is unaffected by the weather. It is a way to escape the summer heat, or a replacement for a valley walk when it rains. However hot it is outside, it is cool inside, so bring a light jumper. Afterwards the driver can take you to a café or straight back to your hotel.
We have a balloon flight in the morning — when should our car with driver start?
Balloon companies collect their guests from the hotel themselves before sunrise and bring them back after the flight, so you do not need a car for that part. Book your car with driver to start once you are back, for example after breakfast at the hotel. That way an early start is followed by a relaxed day of sightseeing at your own pace.
Does the driver also act as a guide, and are entrance tickets included?
The driver knows the roads and gets you between stops comfortably, but is not a licensed tour guide and does not guide you inside museums or sites. If you would like a licensed guide, arrange and pay for one separately. Museum entrance tickets, balloon flights and similar activities are not included in the price; you buy them yourself at the site or from the operator.
