About Tomtom Suites
Tomtom Suites takes its name from Tomtom, the Beyoğlu quarter that slopes from İstiklal Avenue down towards Tophane; the hotel stands on Tomtom Kaptan Sokak, just off Boğazkesen Caddesi, in the Firuzağa neighbourhood. It is a small boutique hotel of 18 suites, now a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and both Galata Tower and Taksim Square are within about a kilometre on foot.
From Istanbul Airport the drive needs no Bosphorus crossing: it heads south past Göktürk and Kemerburgaz into the city and on to the Galatasaray side of Beyoğlu. The last stretch runs through Tomtom's narrow, steep streets, so it is slow; the drop-off is at the hotel's entrance on Tomtom Kaptan Sokak, while İstiklal Avenue just above is a pedestrian street.
The building was once an outbuilding of the French Palace (Palais de France), set aside for the Franciscan nuns known as the Soeurs Garde-Malades. The top-floor restaurant, Nicole, is named after its former owner, the nun Agnès Marthe Nicole, and serves Turkish cooking with a contemporary touch on a terrace looking out over the city. The suites range from 35 to 68 m², there is a library of travel and history books, and the lobby holds a traditional afternoon tea.
