About The Peninsula Istanbul
Three protected buildings on the Karaköy quay, closed to the public for decades, were restored for The Peninsula Istanbul, which opened in early 2023 within the Galataport waterfront, where the Golden Horn meets the Bosphorus. The five-star hotel of the Hong Kong-based Peninsula group stands at Kemankeş Caddesi No:34 in the Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa quarter, a few minutes' walk from the Karaköy ferry pier. Galata Tower is about 430 m up the hill to the north-west, and the Spice Bazaar lies about 1 km away across the Galata Bridge.
No strait lies between Istanbul Airport and the hotel: the airport motorway leads south to Kağıthane, and from there the road descends via Okmeydanı and Kasımpaşa to the Golden Horn and follows its shore to Karaköy Square at the foot of the Galata Bridge. The entrance is just beyond, on Kemankeş Caddesi; guests can also arrive by sea.
The 1937 passenger terminal, a Bauhaus-style building with a clock tower, holds the reception, the Lobby restaurant and the Topside bar; Merkez Han of 1912, once the headquarters of Turkey's maritime operations, and the tiled Çinili Han of 1910 complete the historic trio, and a new wing adds rooms and a ballroom. In all there are 177 rooms and suites, almost all with Bosphorus views. Chef Fatih Tutak's Gallada occupies the roof, the 1,675 m² underground spa has an indoor and an outdoor pool of 25 m each, and gardens by Enzo Enea run along the water.
